George Washington didn’t sleep in this 7,000-square-foot Colonial in Brookville, but one of his relatives has. For about the past 11 years, in fact.

Diane Kerr, the homeowner, says her bloodline traces to George’s half-brother, Augustine Washington Jr.

Kerr and her husband, Ron Mason — who have hired Paula Handler Moss of Laffey Fine Homes to market their home for $2.799 million — are headed south. The couple is considering moving back to Virginia to a family property on the lower part of the Potomac River.

When Kerr and Mason purchased the 2-plus-acre Brookville property, it was “pure forest,” Kerr says, noting it was riddled with poison ivy. The couple took on the task of clearing the land themselves. The in-ground pool, designed by Mason, has neon lighting, two Jacuzzi areas and a hot tub. They also put in a patio and English gardens.

They planted seeds in the greenhouse and have professionally tilled vegetable gardens. A fenced playground is well used by the couple’s grandchildren. There’s also a tiki bar and a refrigerator, adds Moss, noting the property is geared for family fun.
