Glen Cove's Shell House back on market for $1.975 million
The owner of the Glen Cove house that was once part of the J.P. Morgan Jr. estate has the property up for sale again.
Listed for $1.975 million, the Shell House got its name from the seashells embedded in some of the plaster ceilings of the 1905 waterfront house.
The house first went on the market in 2006 for $2.2 million. That year, against owner William Maroney's wishes, the city nominated the property for local landmark status. It was voted down, anyway. The house is listed with the National Register of Historic Places.
It remained on the market until 2007. That year, the asking price was reduced to $1.975 million. It remained on the market until August 2009.
It went back on the market in late January at the same price.
The five-bedroom, three-bath, one half-bath Tudor is on a 225-by-187-foot lot on East Island. Taxes are $22,595.
