Historic Huntington home lists for $659,000

A Federal-style Colonial home in Huntington on the market for $659,000 was built in 1836 for George Scudder, whose family’s ties to the community date back to the 1650s, says the home’s listing agent.

Over the years, the four-bedroom, 2 1⁄2 -bath residence underwent limited structural modifications, including the addition of a kitchen bump-out and an attached 1 1⁄2 -car garage, says listing agent Maria Lanzisero of Signature Premier Properties.

Restored wide-plank floors, fireplaces and mantels, built-ins, shingles, doors, wooden doorknobs and double-hung blown glass windows are original to the home, which features horsehair plaster walls and wood-lathe ceilings.

The original front door and keys and staircase banister, which are not currently in use, have also been preserved, Lanzisero adds.

An updated stainless-steel kitchen, which was designed around the original “beehive” brick bread oven, features granite surfaces, a DCS stove, Bosch dishwasher, a LG refrigerator, gas-burning fireplace and center island.

Three bedrooms on the second floor — two of which include fireplaces — share a marble spa bath containing a multi-jet Bain Ultra chromatherapy tub. A third-story walk-up bedroom includes a walk-in closet and half-bath, Lanzisero says. The home is equipped with central air-conditioning.

Sliding doors in the kitchen open to a multilevel cedar deck, where there is an outdoor kitchen with a refrigerator, grill, griddle and sink. The 0.31-acre parcel includes a brick patio, heated 20-by-40-foot vinyl in-ground pool, two koi ponds and specimen plantings, Lanzisero says.
