DESIGNED BY MoMA ARCHITECT

This midcentury Modern home in Roslyn Estates was designed by architect Philip L. Goodwin who, with Edward Durell Stone, designed the Museum of Modern Art building in Manhattan. The five-bedroom, four-bathroom home is on the market for $1.648 million.

Goodwin built it for Gregory Slader, says Slader's son, Al, of Washington State. The elder Slader had worked for Goodwin as a teen. Goodwin took Gregory Slader under his wing, Slader's son says, and paid for his Ivy League education.

The home has a new chef's kitchen and a walkout lower level with a bedroom and bathroom, as well as an in-ground pool. It's owned by Judith Lenchewski of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty, who is co-listing it with Ronit Berman. -- LISA CHAMOFF

SLEEPING PORCH IN BALDWIN

This Baldwin Colonial, listed for $399,000, was built in 1920 with a unique feature -- a sleeping porch on the second floor.

The space is a cross between a balcony and a porch, and is attached to the master bedroom of the four-bedroom home.

The space is screened during the summer months, and the current owners cover the open areas with Plexiglass in the winter to prevent snow from getting in.

The home also has an open front porch.
