The September issue of House Beautiful

Eight pages of House Beautiful’s September issue are devoted to a home in Brookville and the interior design work of Andrew Raquet.

Based in Manhattan, Raquet’s design credo is, according to his website, “reviving high-end, luxury design in an unpretentious, refreshed way.” And he seems to have hit his mark in the 30-year-old Georgian Colonial featured.

While the original plan was to go in the direction of grays and yellows, the finished product is a blend of silver and gold (what Raquet calls “the bicolor Rolex jubilee” and more beautiful than these words would have you believe). The antiqued mirror he surrounded the fireplace and went to the ceiling with is an unqualified success but one that he termed risky during the planning phase.

The dining room walls are covered in shimmery, hand-painted wallpaper (another move that Raquet thought was risky). The only departure from the metallic palette is in the master bedroom, where an explosion in lavender occurs around the canopied bed. It is the client’s favorite color and Raquet has made it work.
