Glen Cove is often described by residents as a well-rounded city with a small-town feel. "You have everything at your fingertips," says resident Ruth Press of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty. "We have movie theaters, restaurants, shops, parks, three beaches, a hospital," she adds.
Resident Susan Campagna of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage notes that youth and senior programs also are important here.
The city continues to work on projects ranging from the environment and infrastructure to public and school safety, says Mayor Ralph Suozzi. "We are forging ahead on all fronts," Suozzi says.
Phase one of the ferry project, part of the $1 billion waterfront revitalization, is complete. Suozzi said routes have not yet been established, but he hopes the ferries will serve commuters and also offer a recreation component, such as trips to the North Fork and dinner cruises.
There are many housing options in the community. "It runs the gamut, from co-ops to starter homes in the mid-$200,000s to multimillion-dollar waterfront manses," Campagna says. Two-family homes, gated communities, rental apartments and senior assisted-living complexes also are part of the mix.
