THE SCOOP From affordable apartments to roomy single-family homes, Huntington Station offers something for everyone, says Mary Trester of Charles Rutenberg Realty in Plainview. "There are many lovely neighborhoods," says Barbara Lynch of the Huntington office of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty, noting the community's closeness to the train station, parkways and shops.

Revitalization efforts have been ongoing. Soon streetscaping will begin along New York Avenue between Olive Street and Pulaski Road, with new curbs, sidewalks and lights. Breezy Park, a state-of-the-art facility with three playing fields, is to open this spring. A couple of years ago, Manor Field Park underwent about $2 million in improvements.

Last July, the Jack Abrams Intermediate School closed because of area shootings. Efforts to reduce violence include a pilot program that will bring the ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System there.

But the real big news, says Joan Cergol, special assistant for business and economic development to Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone, is that early this month a vacant building at 1000 New York Ave. will be demolished. Developers will soon be solicited, she says, noting that the town has a $1 million grant for the site.

TOWN HOUSES Huntington Country Farms from the $300,000s to $400,000s, says Lynch.
