If you want to buy in Roslyn Harbor

It's no wonder that in 1843, William Cullen Bryant, a poet, newspaper editor and civic leader, chose to purchase property in Roslyn Harbor for his country getaway, which he named Cedarmere.
The environment makes you feel like you're removed from the hustle and bustle of today's life, says Joy Benjamin of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty.
There are about 365 homes in the village, according to its website. Zoning is one acre. Styne says that houses, dating from the early 1900s to the 2000s, vary in size and architectural style. But there is a price to pay to live in a countrified atmosphere so close to Manhattan. Of 10 properties listed on the Multiple Listing Service website, six have asking prices of more than $1 million. Even so, "inventory is always low, and houses sell rapidly," Benjamin says.
