Kelly Killoren Bensimon Hamptons pad gets Walmart chic

You may have thought you’d get an intimate peek at Kelly Killoren Bensimon when she appeared in her six-page Playboy spread this month, or while you followed her around on "The Real Housewives of New York City."

But if you want the really personal stuff, you can get it from -- of all places -- Walmart.

Bensimon has opened the doors to her inner sanctuary -- her East Hampton retreat, which she is trying to rent this summer -- to give a video tour for an episode of "Make Home a Haven," presented by Walmart on Yahoo’s online women’s Web site, Shine.

Bensimon, a model, jewelry designer and author, has put her own stamp on some familiar Hamptons decorating themes.

One such theme is bringing the outdoors in. The shingle-style home is dramatically accented with a mix of bona fide nature -- such as a coffee table that stands on the recovered stump of a fallen 350-year-old tree -- and wilder-than-nature imitations -- including animal-printed fabrics and a pair of Lucite antlers on the wall.

And no Hamptons house would be complete without seaside staples such as the starfish and seashells in the bathroom, a nautical door with a map of Long Island in the playroom and a surfboard designed by famous surfer Laird Hamilton’s dad.

There’s a trendy mix of old and new throughout the house. The kitchen has glossy stainless steel everywhere, but a vintage chandelier with real candles suspended above the table. She painted the wood floor in a high-gloss shine that she calls “inexpensive and super chic.” And she says she authored all three of her books on an 18th century farmhouse table by the light of an 18th century lamp.
