"We have quiet neighborhoods and beautiful Grant Park," says Rochelle Grant of Charles Rutenberg Realty, noting residents also have easy access to houses of worship, shops and restaurants. Without traffic, it's about a 30-minute drive into Manhattan, 15 minutes to Atlantic Beach and Long Beach, and about 10 minutes to JFK International Airport, Grant notes. "It's been a great place for me to raise my son," she adds.

From boutiques to Trader Joe's, "the town has fabulous shopping," says Marlene Gross of Ed McNulty Realty. Major thoroughfares dotted by shops, eateries and services include East Broadway, Broadway and Peninsula Boulevard.

Buyers can find a mix of architectural styles, including Colonials, Capes, split-levels and ranches as well as condos and co-ops. Though prices can exceed $1 million, luxury homes are mostly in the nearby villages of Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Neck and Hewlett Harbor.
