A Locust Valley home on the market for $1.995 million was part of the Underground Railroad, says its owner.
The home was built in 1845 by Samson Tilley. Long Island played a pivotal role in the Underground Railroad’s work to transport slaves to freedom. The original farmhouse served as the servants’ quarters.
The seven-bedroom, 4 1⁄2-bath home has 7 fireplaces, a grand front porch and a covered porch out back and a new kitchen.
Owner Stacey Pecor says she and her husband were looking for a home that would retain the feel of the prewar apartment they had lived in on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, with high ceilings, hardwood floors and other details. “You don’t see many houses like this anymore,” she says. “To be able to live in one with 12-foot-high ceilings, original moldings — it’s just amazing.”
The 3-acre property includes a pool and patio.
It is listed with Christina Porter of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.
