Looking to buy in Hicksville?

Hicksville is one of the hottest-selling towns around, says Mary Macaluso of Realty Connect USA. "It's always consistent . . . One big reason is the taxes are low compared to other areas," Macaluso adds.
Meryl Strauss of Century 21 American Homes agrees. "Hicksville is very appealing to first-time home buyers because the tax base is lower," she says. That's because there is a diversity of industry, which helps to ease the burden, says Bill Foley, a resident for almost 60 years, noting Hicksville is home to National Grid and the Broadway Mall.
This multicultural community also offers recreation areas, houses of worship, an active fire department and civic groups, including the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce and several neighborhood civic associations. If Foley's name sounds familiar, it may be because you spotted Foley Gardens on South Broadway near the train station. For many years, Foley has tended to the garden he helped create.
The community is close to major highways and the Hicksville train station, one of the LIRR's busiest hubs. Routes 106 and 107 and Old Country Road are busy thoroughfares, too. Buyers can find just about any style of home -- some with basements and some without, says Strauss. Higher-priced homes -- high $500,000s, low $600,000s -- are typically in the section known as Field Estates, where property sizes tend to be larger. Homes in Hillside Terrace often are priced between $400,000 and $450,000.
