The village has its own police department and operates its own utilities, including electric and water. "The village is very self-sufficient," says resident Richard McQuillan, owner-broker of Exit Links Realty.
"We have a thriving downtown," says Mayor Francis X. Murray, noting occupancy is at 96.5 percent. There are about 50 restaurants, with more on the way. Helen Esposito of Century 21 Sherlock Homes notes there's lots of good shopping.
Village projects include road work and the repair of athletic fields. The renovation of the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex was funded by Molloy College on land donated by the village, Murray says.
Residential areas feature mostly Colonials, Tudors and Victorians, as well as apartment buildings, condos, co-ops and senior complexes.
"The market is very strong . . . There are bidding wars if a house is priced right," McQuillan says.
