Armando Diana emigrated from Italy in 1967 and had this 2,500-square-foot home built in 1972. Because of a language barrier, his son and co-owner Dino spoke for him.
“Dad’s an outdoor guy. He loves tending to his beloved lawn and garden. He grows figs, tomatoes, squash, eggplant, peppers, potatoes, cucumbers, asparagus and more. During the winter, you can’t appreciate how robust and beautiful the garden is. . . . There’s oak flooring everywhere in the house except the kitchen and bathrooms. A large four-season room is off the back. The house is massively insulated and very energy efficient. There’s a large fireplace in the dining room that Dad used to cook in. . . . There’s also a koi pond in the backyard. My kids like to feed the fish. . . . Dad makes his own tomato sauce, sausage and wine. He has what they call a “cantina” in the basement. Half of the basement is finished. The other half is the cantina where his homemade foods are made and stored. It’s the perfect temperature. . . . Dad and I fished and crabbed a lot when I was a kid. The Forge River is down our road. And the beach at Smith Point [County] Park is only four to five miles away. . . .
