An original Merrick Gables home that was expanded in 2004 in keeping with the Mediterranean style is on the market for $849,000.

The owners added a complete second floor to the home, with three bedrooms, including a master suite, and one room used as an office, says listing agent Gina Padro of Keller Williams Realty. The addition has the same stucco exterior and red tile roof, and the home totals more than 3,300 square feet.

“They kept the beauty and charm of the Gables home,” Padro says.

The section of Merrick was built in the 1920s and ’30s by Joseph Frankel and William Fox of the Fox Film Corp., which later became Twentieth Century Fox.

The home also features soaring ceilings with exposed wood beams, parquet floors and living room with a wood-burning fireplace.
