This very, very pink stucco ranch is located in the Merrick Gables Association -- the community where scenes were shot last summer for the upcoming HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce" starring Oscar winner Kate Winslet. The show premieres at 9 p.m. March 27, but you can see "Making Mildred Pierce" tonight at 7 on HBO2.

On the market for $529,000, the 1927 home in the Merrick school district has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. “It really as a lot of charm. It’s adorable," says listing agent Lisa Pellegrino of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Merrick. The almost 1,600-square-foot home features hardwood floors, central air conditioning and a central vacuum system. It has a finished basement.

But why pink? Pellegrino says resident Robert Katz owned the place first. When he got married, he and his new wife, Karen Katz, were "tickled pink" -- so they painted it pink. "It was a sign of love for them," says Pellegrino.

The 60-by-100-foot property is landscaped with a waterfall and a koi pond, and has in-ground sprinklers. Annual taxes are $11,542.

The Gables, as the neighborhood is known, is also well known for its history: The homes were constructed as an East Coast haven for Hollywood stars in the 1920s and ’30s.
