Miller Place 'coffee homes' for sale
The Vassilaros family -- longtime coffee merchants -- is selling two houses in Miller Place. Two historic houses owned by the Vassilaros family -- longtime coffee merchants -- are for sale in Miller Place. Family member Maria Vassilaros, secretary-manager of the company, says the properties were bought by her grandparents in the 1940s. They lived in the larger, circa 1845, 10-room Colonial, above, that eventually became a summer retreat they called The Farm.
Vassilaros recalls happy summers in the 1960s and ’70s riding her horse there. Her father allowed local farmers to grow crops on the then-66 acre property in exchange for helping him cultivate a vineyard. Today, most of the original acreage is part of a preserve.
