North Hempstead supervisor's home comes on market

First it was Rep. Steve Israel. Now another politician is trying to sell his home.

North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman listed his Great Neck house on Monday for $749,000.

"A little more space would be helpful for raising three kids, two cats and a dog," says Kaiman, explaining that he and his wife, Kim, want to buy a larger house nearby.

The three-bedroom, 1.5-bath Tudor was built in 1929. The 60-by-100-foot property has a two-car detached garage and a patio. The basement is partly finished with high ceilings, and there is a walk-up attic.

Annual property taxes are about $10,382.

"We're looking to take advantage of the lower interest rates," says Kaiman, acknowledging that it might be tough to sell his house. If the market won't allow it, so be it, he says. "It's not urgent."

The Kaimans bought the house in 1999 for $480,000.

The house is listed with Trudy Elliott of June Shapiro Realty Laffey Associates.

Last week, it was reported that Israel put his Dix Hills home on the market for $649,966.
