The 1895 Northport Colonial that belonged to a former New York State senator and Suffolk County district attorney is on the market for $2,999,999.

The house, which remains in the late Bernard Smith's family, sits on a 4.93-acre property that offers views of Northport Harbor.

Featuring seven bedrooms and 4½ bathrooms, the house includes formal living and dining rooms, each with a fireplace. There is also a parlor and eat-in kitchen on the main level.

Nearly every room in the house offers water views, says listing agent Denise Rogers of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, who is representing the property with Olivia Regan. That includes the second-level master bedroom, which features a sitting area and a full bathroom. The house, with a full basement, also has a third level with an office and separate living quarters.

Original features in the house include pocket doors, moldings and wood floors. The property, which includes a detached four-car garage with a loft, features a wraparound porch and the original outhouse, Rogers says.

Smith, who died in 1993, purchased the house in 1961, according to property records. He practiced law in Northport for 44 years and served as the Suffolk County district attorney from 1962 to 1965 and in the state senate from 1965 to 1978. The house, Rogers says, is currently owned by Smith’s eldest son.
