Old Brookville modernized historical manor on market for $1.528 million

This Old Brookville house, the first portion of which was built shortly after the Revolutionary War's end, is on the market for $1.528 million.

The original saltbox was built for Henry Townsend in 1788. A large wing was added to the north side of the house in 1920, turning it into a "commanding manor house" that was featured in architectural magazines, says co-listing agent Kristen Vlahopoulos of Douglas Elliman Real Estate. For years, she adds, the home was also a destination for historical society tours.

The house was modernized in 1983, renovated to raise the ceilings, reverse a staircase and move doors to "create a better flow," Vlahopoulos says.

Today, the 4,116-square-foot residence on 2.2 acres features six bedrooms, three bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, four fireplaces and the original 8-inch wide-plank wood floors.

Included on the grounds are a separate 2,500-square-foot guesthouse with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a half bath. There is also a cricket court.
