The grounds around this circa-1855 house in Orient, listed for $749,000, will soon be blooming with new life thanks in part to its owners.

Currently owned by professionals in the floral and design businesses, the triangular 0.83-acre parcel includes spring gardens and a circular formal garden with a fountain, says listing agent Deborah Kusa of Douglas Elliman Real Estate. The property is filled with specimen plantings, including ornamental cherry trees, hollies and hydrangeas.

The original portion of the residence was built a half-mile east of its current location; at the turn of the 20th century, Oscar Beebe and Emma Latham moved it before their wedding, according to historians. Around 1943, Charles and Laura Ryder inherited the house from the Latham estate. After falling into disrepair, it was fully renovated in 1990 by a previous owner.

In the three-bedroom, three-bath home, original features such as raised-panel doors, fireplaces, mantels, moldings and banisters have been preserved, Kusa says. Wide-plank wood floors and antique light fixtures are found throughout.

The first floor includes a living room with a fireplace, a formal dining room, a den and a mudroom-laundry with wainscoting, pantry doors and a sink. An eat-in kitchen has double-height ceilings and a gallery landing overlooking the space.

Upstairs, there is a full bath and three bedrooms, including an en-suite master bedroom with a sitting room through French doors. The house includes a screened-in porch and a covered rear patio.
