This nine-acre Syosset property, on the market for $4.25 million, includes a brick Georgian Colonial manor house built in 1927 and designed by noted architects Beers & Farley for attorney George deForest Lord. Called Overfields, it has remained in the Lord family and is being sold by a third-generation relative.
The nine-bedroom home is modeled on Westover, a plantation house in Virginia, says Patrick Mackay of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, who is listing the property with Sara Maragos. It features a high-ceilinged living room and a cherrywood-paneled library, both with wood-burning fireplaces. There are also fireplaces in the master bedroom and master bathroom. The formal dining room has shell alcoves with dentil molding and painted wood paneling, and there are original brass finishes throughout.
“It’s an absolutely beautifully proportioned, gracious grande dame,” Mackay says. “Everybody who comes and sees it is impressed with the scale of its rooms, the fireplaces, the views out the back of the property.”
On the property is a gunite pool, a brick and flagstone terrace, a small apple orchard and a pond, as well as a four-car garage with a two-bedroom apartment. There are also three cottages, including a converted stable. An adjoining two acres can be purchased for an additional $700,000.
