Author John O’Hara, who wrote the novel “Butterfield 8” and a collection of stories that became the Broadway musical “Pal Joey,” rented this oceanfront home in Quogue from the Post family for many years after it was built in the 1920s, says listing agent Dee Perfido of Kerrigan Country Realty. It is on the market for $16.2 million.
It is also available to rent from Memorial Day through June for $30,000.
According to a history of the Surf Club of Quogue, O’Hara walked from his home for the club’s clam chowder.
The property sits on 200 feet of beachfront and has had only two owners, Perfido says.
“It’s three acres on the ocean, which is rare in and of itself,” Perfido says. “It’s just a beautiful piece of property.”
The five-bedroom home has stone fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom and an updated kitchen with stainless steel appliances, subway tile and classic-looking gray and white tile floors.
