Jay Lockett Sears designed the house. He also was the architect of homes for celebrities such as Michael J. Fox. His other claim to fame? He played a surfer in the 1959 film “Gidget.”
The house had been owned by James Shapiro, who founded the Simplicity Pattern Co. — and used one of the far wings of the home as his “mad room” to release frustration, Sears says.
The property is listed with the Enzo Morabito Team of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate and Harald Grant of Sotheby’s International Realty. -- Valerie Kellogg
