This five-bedroom farmhouse, built in 1691, is one of Sands Point’s oldest homes. It is on the market for $3.998 million.
Called the Sands-Hewlett-Tibbits-Grossman House, the home has been renovated, but still boasts antique details, including original wide-plank wood floors and buttons to turn on the electricity, says listing agent Nava Mitnick of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.
A reflector plate in one of the fireplaces, made in 1791, bears the image of George Washington and was a gift for him when he did his victory tour along what is now Northern Boulevard, say the owners. The home also purportedly served as a hiding place for Revolutionary War soldiers.
“The home is in immaculate condition, but they really paid attention to the history,” Mitnick says.
The four-acre property also has a pool, tennis court, guest cottage and barn.
