An owner-designed house in Shelter Island Heights is up for sale — and up among the treetops. The $1.85 million home has a covered mahogany dining deck that puts residents at eye level with the surrounding forest canopy.

“You could say it has a little bit of a treehouse flavor,” says seller Donald McWeeney, who designed the four-bedroom, 4 1⁄2 -bathroom property. “It was meant to create that indoor-outdoor feel.”

The property is visited by wildlife, including foxes, deer, hawks and wild turkeys.

Each of the four bedrooms is en suite with its own private egress. “It creates a kind of independence in the house,” says McWeeney, a software engineer who is selling the house with his wife, Francesca Mondello, a fashion industry consultant.

The house has an in-ground pool extending to the edge of the forest, as well as a poolside patio and outdoor shower.

Linda McCarthy of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.
