Interior designer Betty Wasserman brought her own touches to this 1940 Southampton farmhouse, giving it a modern update that retained its original warmth. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is on the market for $1.499 million.

After Wasserman purchased the home in 2001, she opened up the downstairs, adding a wall of glass along the back. She also updated the 1960s-era kitchen, keeping a traditional farmhouse look by installing Shaker-style cabinets that had been in the basement and having a cabinetmaker replicate the look for the rest of the space.

“It was a very simple house,” Wasserman says. “The guts, the bones, the character of the house is what I fell in love with.”

Wasserman also added a fireplace to the living room and built a mudroom. Upstairs, she added a master bathroom with a stall shower, soaking tub, vanity and separate makeup vanity.

Outside is a heated gunite pool and renovated pool house with full bathroom and kitchenette, and a shed that Wasserman’s daughter uses as a playhouse in the summer. Landscaping includes pear trees and hydrangeas, and the back deck is decorated with drapery.

It is listed with Sharon Kerr of The Corcoran Group.
