Welcome to the latest installment of the High and the Low, where we look at the highest priced and the lowest priced houses in a particular Long Island community's market. Today, we focus on Brookhaven:
Most expensive home on the market: $1,199,000
Built in 2008, this post-modern home has had many custom improvements. “It is a magnificent house and uses unique materials,” says listing agent Deborah Galligan of Marylou Swan Realty Corp. (631-289-5550). The floors are mother of pearl, the freeform inground pool is surrounded by crab orchard stone, and the decks are made from expensive and maintenance-free material known as Azek. The home has four bedrooms and 3.5 baths, a formal dining room, an eat-in-kitchen, a family room and a crawlspace basement. “Everything is custom inside and outside … the builder did some really beautiful things” Galligan says.
Least expensive home on the market: $179,000
This three-bedroom, one-bathroom house was built in 1960 and needs some TLC, says co-listing agent Lisa Stulz of Advantage + Realty Corp. (631-957-0096). “It needs updating, it needs to be refreshed,” Stulz says. The home has a partially finished basement, an eat-in-kitchen, a formal dining room and an unfinished attic. It also has a front porch and decking in the backyard, as well as an aboveground pool.
