Feng shui, pronounced “fung-SHWAY,” is defined as the Chinese practice of creating harmonious surroundings by arranging furniture or determining the siting of a house.

OK, now that we’re all experts, let’s take a look at three properties on the market said to feature good feng shui:

This four-bedroom, three-bathroom expanded ranch in Westhampton Beach, listed for $999,500, is part of an estate sale. “At one time, the home was very Asian influenced, right down to the black-tile floor, light gray walls and proper red door,” says listing agent Ed Kurosz of The Corcoran Group. “The children who inherited the home toned it down a bit, but kept their mother’s original inspiration.” The half-acre property is a private flag lot with a 20-by-40-foot gunite pool. An interior and exterior renovation was done in 2007, and the home now features travertine tile bathrooms and a granite and stainless steel kitchen.

This five-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom Colonial in New Hyde Park, listed for $835,000, has “good feng shui," according to the listing with agent Daniel Guerrier of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate. While the current homeowners are not focused on feng shui, there are aspects of the home that have triggered comments about the home’s good standing. “Four” is not in the house number, the interior staircase is not directly in front of the home’s front door, and none of the trees on the .11-acre property is blocking the flow of energy to the home.

This detached six-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom home in The Links homeowners association community in North Hills has been on the market since March and is listed for $1.55 million. “Perfect feng shui” is listed prominently in the property description. "The homeowners hire a feng shui expert to visit their home several times a year to place furniture and accessories in a way that provides positive energy… creating a peaceful, prosperous and smart environment," says listing agent Andrea Kamhi of Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty. She adds that many prospective homebuyers have expressed interest in the listing's feng shui mention and “know that the positive energy would work for them.” The home is part of a homeowners association, to which monthly dues are $995.
