With autumn here, it's time to think about putting in the storm windows. Just don't put away the sunscreen.

The American Academy of Dermatology says sunscreen should be applied all year, even during cloudy fall and winter days. Just because you're not baking on the beach doesn't mean ultraviolet rays won't do damage, causing wrinkles, age spots and, potentially, skin cancer.

The academy also points out that keeping your skin healthy doesn't necessarily mean expensive cosmetics or treatments. For example, inexpensive petroleum jelly can moisturize and soothe rough spots on feet, elbows and hands. And to keep the cold winds from drying your skin, apply a body moisturizer as soon as you get out of the shower when your skin is still damp. If you do buy an anti-aging product, two ingredients to look for are vitamin A and alpha-hydroxy acid.
