Here's a motto that can best describe Westbury: Everything old is new again. That's because the village has been in renovation mode since 1999.

A sample of enhancements along Post Avenue include new storefronts, decorative street lighting and Victorian street signs, and perhaps most significant, the redevelopment of vacant and blighted sites.

The Village Piazza Ernesto Strada on Post and Maple avenues, for instance, was created as open space. Concerts and a short-film exhibition were staged there this summer.

Residents are excited about the newest venue -- The Space at Westbury -- at the site of the former Westbury movie theater. Wendy Liotti of Rowan Real Estate notes the space can be used as a concert hall, movie theater and for events and that a new arts council is being formed.

Westbury's central location also offers residents easy access to retailers, restaurants, recreation areas and parkways, says resident Mel Kussoy of Century 21 American Homes.

Westbury, which is culturally and economically diverse, also comprises the unincorporated neighborhoods of Salisbury, Salisbury Estates and New Cassel. Buyers can find single-family homes as well as condos and co-ops.
