The Beers’ 2,271-square-foot home was built in 2001 and is literally in the middle of farmland, says Ken:
“We came here for the quiet environment and chose the North Fork for its open space, farmland, vineyards, beaches and local shopping. We love the serenity. We have a wraparound porch where we eat breakfast and entertain.
"We expanded the original plans by 300 to 400 square feet when we built. We did all the plantings. It looks professional. We have 50 arborvitaes in the back, plus boxwoods and hydrangeas. The front porch has PVC railings and the fencing in the back has two arbors. We have a 14-zone irrigation system.
"The kitchen flows into the eating area and then into the den. We have a formal dining room and a formal living room and a gas fireplace. We entertain year-round: in the summer on the 20-by-20-foot Azek maintenance-free deck, and in the winter in the den and formal living room. We both love this place. My wife loves the gardening in particular.
"We have gas heat and central air-conditioning [two zones]. It’s very economical. There are hardwood floors throughout, except for the bedrooms. We have a two-car garage and an 8-by-10-foot shed for extra storage. It’s a perfect neighborhood. There’s farmland behind us and the development rights were bought by Suffolk County. It won’t ever be developed.”
