Why it’s for sale: Merritt, 44, a self-employed insurance broker, says he looking to make a change and will be moving out east.

“The great features of this home are the large living area, the open layout and, of course, the waterfront aspect.
"I’m on a corner property, so the backyard is very private. You don’t feel as though anyone’s on top of you. Because it’s at the head of the canal, you don’t have a lot of boat traffic. I keep my 22-foot boat at my dock.
"Summer here is all about being on the water. The floating dock and ramps are new, and the kitchen cabinetry, granite counters and stainless steel appliances are new. . . . The gas fireplace in the living room kept the house warm after Sandy.
"All the bedrooms are on the second floor. I’ve had New Year’s Eve parties and birthday parties in the summer for 25 to 30 people. And parking’s never been a problem.
"I’ll definitely miss living here. I’ve been in Long Beach for 19 years. It’s a great place to live. There are great restaurants, always something going on and, of course, the fabulous beaches.”
