The Smiths bought their five-bedroom, 3 ½-bathroom Colonial 23 years ago. It is on a third of an acre and has about 2,275 square feet of living space. The home has an attached two-car garage. Jan talks about her home:

“We moved here because we knew the Three Village School District was good and it’s north of 25A. It’s a very quiet neighborhood and there are lots of trees so it’s shaded. It’s close to West Meadow Beach ... the library, the ponds, the schools, the train station and Stony Brook University. We love to go to Port Jeff Village ... We raised our two, now-adult children here. There’s plenty of space to entertain and a cozy living room with a beamed ceiling and a fireplace. We renovated the kitchen, and all the bathrooms, and there are hardwood floors throughout ... The windows are high-performance Marvin ... We have an elevated deck out back and there’s always a breeze. We spend a lot of time there in the summer. The backyard is fenced in and good for anyone with pets ... The fifth bedroom is downstairs in our finished basement and could be a bedroom or an office. The finished basement is fully carpeted and there are several full-size windows and a walkout door. You don’t feel like you’re in a basement down there ... We actually love it here. It’ll be a bittersweet move.”
