The Rosenfields’ 1952 cottage-style home on Great South Bay is oozing shorefront rustic charm, which was part of the initial attraction when the couple bought it in 2001. Riva shares her thoughts:
“When I first saw the house, it was misty out, and it reminded me of houses in Cape Cod. . . . We have beautiful sunsets. It’s very private and always tranquil and windswept. . . . The open layout is good for entertaining, and we’ve had lovely dinner parties there. . . . We took down a wall between what was a tiny living room and made it an open floor plan with the kitchen, dining room and living room. . . .There’s a deck off the living room . . . and off the master bedroom. Almost all the rooms lead to the outside. . . . We put in a swimming pool the width and the length of the house. . . . We have a trellis that’s covered with flowers and vines over an 11-foot picnic table . . . We have several beach plum trees and apple trees on the property. . . . It’s got the charm of a retro 1950s cottage.”
