The Swayhoovers’ ranch has 1,768 square feet of space and is situated in the Idle Hour section of Oakdale. Despite being across the street from waterfront property, the home had minimal impact from superstorm Sandy -- just some water in the crawl space, the owners say. Art chats about the house:
“We bought the house in 1968 and loved it because it was so close to the Idle Hour Elementary School .?.?. We entertain in the dining room and sunken living room, which also has a gas fireplace. We love the eat-in kitchen because it opens up to the family room.
"There’s a large opening in the wall near the dining area that opens into the family room. It makes it very spacious. It’s almost like one giant room .?.?. The sliding glass doors in the family room open to the brick patio .?.?. Our house is on a corner property. It’s a very treed and shady property. The trees give us a lot of privacy .?.?. The property backs up to the Oakdale Artist Colony, which was originally part of the Vanderbilt estate. It’s a quiet and unique neighborhood. The neighbors are great.”
