The Bassuks have owned their three-bedroom, two-bath, second-floor condo in The Hamlet at Olde Oyster Bay since January 2010. The complex has 370 units with many amenities, including an on-site restaurant — The Lakeview, for which residents are charged a mandatory $165 minimum monthly dining fee. Brad talks about the best features of the property:

“The safety is excellent. It’s a gated community; you can’t get in without being announced. There’s a fabulous on-site playground where the kids can congregate. We love the idea of the restaurant. You don’t have to go out anywhere on a Friday night. You can take the kids or order food to go ... We have a lot of other amenities ... indoor and outdoor pools, a kiddie pool, a gym, tennis and basketball courts. We even have a hair salon on premises ... We came from a one-bedroom apartment in Great Neck. So when we saw this place, we were blown away. It was huge ...  [The unit has] a separate dining room, a living room, an eat-in kitchen, vaulted ceilings in the living room and master bedroom. We have a private balcony with a built-in gas barbecue. During Sandy, everyone was out barbecuing their steaks and chicken from the freeze ... We redid the master bathroom with new tile, a new vanity, a new paint job. We put in a granite countertop and tile in the kitchen. We did new carpet and a chair rail throughout the apartment.”
