Farmhouses for sale on Long Island
After almost two decades of life on the family compound, Leslie Horn
is ready to move closer to Southampton Village and not deal with the upkeep of her 7-acre Green Top Farm.
Named for its main house's green roof, Green Top was an idyllic place for her four children and their families to spend weekends and summers, Horn says of the former chicken-cum-tree farm, which she and her husband converted into a multifamily residence, replacing two unheated cottages with year-round, four-bedroom homes, and converting a third into a pool house.
Now, Horn says she hopes someone with a growing family will buy the property and use it as her family did, collecting wonderful memories of their own.
"Their bicycles have turned into cars," she says wistfully of her grandchildren's things. "It's just a happy place. We had a wonderful 20 years."
For over three centuries, agriculture has been a Long Island mainstay. Though the landscape changed as communities developed, there are still many working farms sprinkled throughout the Island. Like these houses, some are for sale.
