Beginners are welcome at a kayak lesson and guided tour of Cold Spring Harbor with the Long Island Kayak Club. Meet at 10 a.m. at Cold Spring Harbor State Park (Route 25A). Admission includes boat rental, lesson and guide. Reservations required.

Country crooner Trace Adkins (remember him from "Celebrity Apprentice" a few years back?) brings his "Songs and Stories" tour to NYCB Theatre at Westbury for an 8 p.m. show.

Runners rule on Shelter Island -- at least on Saturday. The island's popular annual 10k run starts at 5:30 p.m. sharp at the roundabout on School Street. Olympians Frank Shorter, Joan Benoit-Samuelson, Bill Rodgers and Keith Brantly will lead pace groups. A post-race party follows at Island Boatyard with live music and a free barbecue for runners. Register noon-4:30 p.m. at the Shelter Island High School gym (33 N. Ferry Rd.).

Paddleboat

Board the paddleboat Lauren Kristy at the Bay Shore Marina for a 5:30 p.m. sail across the Great South Bay on a sunset and starlight cruise that includes dinner and dancing. You'll make a stop at the Fire Island Lighthouse and visit the Lens Building.
