Actor Anthony Michael Hall accused of attacking neighbor

Actor Anthony Michael Hall has been charged with battery after a confrontation outside his California condominium.

TMZ.com reported Sunday that the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office charged Hall, 48, with felony battery involving serious bodily injury. The site said because special circumstances are alleged, the charge carries a seven-year sentence rather than the usual four.

In security video dated Sept. 13, a man TMZ identifies as Hall appears to have a physical altercation with a neighbor and then walks away. Hall’s neighbor at the condominium in Playa del Rey, a coastal neighborhood of Los Angeles, called 911 and told police Hall had left a gate open. After being asked to close it, alleged the neighbor, Hall slammed it shut and then attacked the man, knocking him to the ground and leaving him with a broken wrist and a hurt back.

Hall did not respond to TMZ’s request for comment.

In September 2011, the actor — known for such 1980s John Hughes films as “Sixteen Candles” and “The Breakfast Club,” and for the 2002-2007 USA Network series “The Dead Zone” — was booked on suspicion of disturbing the peace at the same condominium after allegedly tearing up plants, pounding on doors and yelling at other residents, TMZ reported at the time. Neighbors told the site Hall frequently behaved aggressively outside his apartment, cursing at passers-by. In that instance he was released shortly after booking. No information on the case’s disposition was available Sunday.

Hall’s dozens of film and TV credits include “National Lampoon’s Vacation” (1983), “Weird Science” (1985), “Edward Scissorhands” (1990), “Six Degrees of Separation” (1993), “The Dark Knight” (2011) and “Foxcatcher” (2014). He recently played the recurring role of Paul Barnes in the TNT crime drama “Murder in the First.”
