Christina Aguilera says she has been struggling emotionally since separating from her husband and then filing for divorce last week.

"It's not easy, and there have been a lot of tears and sadness," she told Redbook magazine, in excerpts from the December issue posted online Thursday. "It's impossible to redefine yourself and your life overnight. Thankfully, I have my mom and a small group of close friends who are there for me 24/7 and whom I can trust and depend on. On days when it feels impossible to even get out of bed, much less function as a mother, their support and encouragement have kept me moving forward."

She and husband Jordan Bratman, who married in 2005, have a son, Max, who turns 3 in January.

Though telling the magazine she and music-industry executive Bratman, 33, had attended couples therapy, Aguilera, 29, otherwise declined to discuss their issues, saying, "Out of respect for my husband, I prefer to keep the specifics private. Right now, I'm just trying to figure out how to make it through each day."

Photographs posted Thursday by RadarOnline.com show Aguilera with a bruised right cheek and a cut below her lip.

The celebrity-gossip site said she went to the emergency room of Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Oct. 12, the day she and Bratman announced their separation, sparking speculation of possible domestic violence.

"Christina was bleeding from her mouth and had a bit of a busted lip," a source told the site. "Jordan told the nurses she had fallen down."

TMZ.com, however, says sources close to Aguilera confirm that her injury were indeed a result of "a simple fall."
