Amy Schumer’s Huntington book signing canceled

After initially indicating that her Emmy Award-winning sketch-comedy series had been canceled, comedian Amy Schumer said Thursday that the show will go on, though when is unclear.
“We aren’t making the show anymore,” the Rockville Centre-raised comic, 35, tweeted Wednesday of “Inside Amy Schumer,” which Comedy Central in January renewed for a fifth season announced to air next year.
Schumer retreated from that statement Thursday, writing on Twitter that the show “is not canceled. Comedy Central has provided us with a wonderful home and we couldn’t be happier there. I am just touring. Doing standup and focusing on writing more for the next year at least. We are slated for a season 5 but not in the foreseeable future. I’m grateful Comedy Central is giving me this time to work on other projects.”
Comedy Central had no comment. Schumer’s spokeswoman did not respond to a Newsday request for clarification.
The initial tweet came in the wake of a dispute in which Schumer condemned friend and comedian Kurt Metzger for his recent remarks about sexual assault. Metzger is credited as being a writer on “Inside Amy Schumer,” though Schumer posted multiple times that “he is not a writer on my show.”
Meanwhile, Schumer canceled her Thursday appearance at Huntington’s Book Revue. Loren Aliperti, a representative for the bookstore, said they were told the cancellation late Wednesday was due to “an illness.” She explained that ticket holders could receive a refund at any time, although the store hopes to reschedule the event.
Schumer, who is promoting her just-released memoir “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo,” held book-signings earlier Wednesday in Philadelphia and Jersey City. She also was scheduled to sign at Anderson’s Bookshop in the Chicago suburb of Naperville this Saturday, but a woman answering the phone there Thursday said Schumer “canceled this morning. I guess she’s ill. We’re going to find out in a couple of days whether she can reschedule.”
At a signing Tuesday at Barnes & Noble’s Union Square location in Manhattan, Schumer was heckled by sign-carrying protesters for having worn a goose-down jacket this winter made by a company that allegedly engages in animal cruelty. TMZ.com said a representative for Schumer told the site the comic has not worn the jacket, which had been a gift, since learning of the allegations.
