Ashlee Simpson, younger sister of Jessica Simpson, has filed for divorce from her musician husband, Pete Wentz. The two were married 2 1/2 years and have a son, Bronx Mowgli Wentz, 2.

"After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," the couple said in a statement. "We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."

In her filing, as Ashlee Nicole Simpson-Wentz, she cited irreconcilable differences, asked that Wentz pay attorney fees, and requested physical custody and joint legal custody of their child.

The divorce comes as a surprise, as there was no indication of discord and the couple were photographed arm-in-arm together with their son as recently as Monday.

Simpson, 26, and former Fall Out Boy bassist Wentz, 31, who now performs with his group Black Cards, were wed May 16, 2008, after two years of dating. They have no prenuptial agreement, according to E!
