Billy Joel book postponed until June
Billy Joel's memoir, originally announced for April, has a new publication date of June 14, publisher Harper Collins announced Thursday. No explanation was given for the delay.
"The Book of Joel," written with Rolling Stone veteran Fred Schruers, will take fans on an "emotional ride" through the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's career, including the writing of such hits as "Piano Man," "Just the Way You Are" and "New York State of Mind."
The book will also discuss Joel's failed marriages with Christie Brinkley and former "Top Chef" host Katie Lee, as well as his struggles with depression and substance abuse, the source of a recent public squabble with pal Elton John.
"Billy Joel's fans feel they know him from his intensely autobiographical songs, but there is a lot in this book that he has never revealed before," said Joel's editor, David Hirshey, in a statement. "He talks candidly about his many high-profile romances, his relationship with his daughter, Alexa Ray, and the joys and pitfalls of the rock star life. These are the sides of Billy Joel that are hidden beneath his celebrated music."
HarperCollins also released the book's jacket Thursday, featuring a black-and-white close-up of Joel taken in the 1990s.
Joel was born in the Bronx and raised in Hicksville. He now divides his time between Long Island and Miami.
