Bobby Brown, ex-husband of the late singer Whitney Houston and the father of their 19-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, was arrested Monday afternoon outside Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Brown was initially pulled over because he was seen talking on his cellphone, California Highway Patrol officer Mike Harris told the Los Angeles Times. Harris later elaborated to The Associated Press that the arresting officer believed Brown, 43, appeared to be impaired. Brown was given a field sobriety test that he failed, police said.
The arrest occurred at 12:20 p.m. near the corner of Victory Boulevard and Wilbur Avenue in Reseda, Calif., in the San Fernando Valley. Brown was taken to jail in nearby Van Nuys, said TMZ.com, which initially reported the arrest.
TMZ said Brown had posted bail. The website said he has a previous DUI conviction, after a 1996 arrest in Georgia to which he eventually pleaded guilty. He served 8 days in jail.
