Braff: Website hacked, 'still straight'

The official website of "Scrubs" star Zach Braff briefly posted an announcement Wednesday stating that the actor was coming out as gay. But Braff was the victim of what his representative called a hacker hoax and the announcement was quickly taken down. The site now shows just an ad for an Off-Broadway play Braff has written.

The faked statement, posted as a screen grab at TMZ.com, read in part, "I have been hiding a secret inside me for too long. The human mind can only bare so much before it explodes in emotions, and well it is time to let the world know. I am excited and proud to announce that I am an open member of the homosexual community. This is not news to those closest to me and I honor that they have kept it a secret for such a long time. This doesn't change anything. I am still Zach Braff, and I am the same man I've always been, gay or not :)"

Braff, 36, quickly took to Facebook to clarify that the post had not come from him. "My old website got hacked. Someone issued a 'coming out' statement on my behalf. I'm still straight and in love with my girlfriend. But not too straight; I still love musicals, brunch and Doogie Howser," referring to the 1989-93 TV character played by gay actor Neil Patrick Harris.

Shortly afterward, he added, "Yes, yes, and of course Donald Faison," his "Scrubs" co-star. "My Mocha-Bear. He's like a Taye Diggs latte." He then posted a three-minute clip from their show featuring their bromance ballad "Guy Love," and writing, "This song is my official statement."

Braff in the mid-2000s dated singer Mandy Moore, who played his character's girlfriend on some episodes of "Scrubs" and wrote a song about their 2006 breakup. He later dated actress Shiri Appleby for a year before they broke up in March 2008. He is now involved with fashion model Taylor Bagley.
