Britney Spears' official website has denied a report that the pop princess has gotten engaged - though it went after the wrong target.

The webmaster of BritneySpears.com plastered an expletive in big red letters across an image of the item from BreatheHeavy.com, which bills itself as the largest Spears fan site.

The item claims Spears' boyfriend, talent agent Jason Trawick, 38, proposed to her during their current Hawaiian vacation and that Spears, 28, accepted.

But the item, as the excoriated fan site duly noted, had come from another website, HollywoodLife.com, which quoted a source who said that "Britney has been looking to get married and Jason felt it was the right time to propose."

The source added that Trawick "was so nervous that all he could remember to do was to get down on one knee" during a candlelit beach dinner, and that he "professed his love for her and her boys, and then asked her to be his wife."

People magazine said Thursday that the two, who have been dating for more than a year, did tour a wedding chapel at a Maui resort and watched a wedding from their hotel balcony. A source told the magazine, "They're really taking things day by day."

Spears has been married twice before, first to childhood pal Jason Alexander for 55 hours in 2004. She later married backup dancer Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children. They divorced after three years.
