The two "are pleased to announce that they are expecting the birth of their first child next year," their representative told People magazine, a day after Dewan-Tatum displayed her baby bump Sunday during a taping of a "VH1's Divas" concert in Los Angeles.

"I'm ready; I think she's ready" to have children, the "Magic Mike" star, 32, told People last month of himself and his wife, whom he met when they starred together in the dance movie "Step Up" (2006). "The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we'll see where we go after that."

Tatum told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month that he already had planned to take some time off from acting "by the end of next year" in order to develop a script with his production partner and "Magic Mike" screenwriter, Reid Carolin, for the actor to direct. "We're going to be like, all right, no more acting parts for a minute, let's take a few [moments] and really get caring about that [directing] section of our career."

Tatum has been in Pittsburgh shooting "Foxcatcher," about deranged chemical-company heir John du Pont's murder of Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz. He has already filmed director Steven Soderbergh's "Side Effects," due out February, and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," set for March.
