TV journalist Connie Chung has revealed she was sexually assaulted in a new op-ed supporting Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford.

"I, too, was sexually assaulted," Chung wrote in a letter to Ford published by The Washington Post Wednesday. "I have kept my dirty little secret to myself. Silence for five decades."

She said she was molested by the "trusted" family doctor who delivered her, years later when she was in college in the 1960s. Chung went to his home office to ask for birth control; during a gynecological examination, the "monster" allegedly began abusing her sexually.

Chung, 72, said she was "fuzzy" on some details, such as the date of the alleged assault, but the experience is still "vivid -- forever seared in my memory." She said she is "100 percent" sure who did it, and the unnamed doctor died over 20 years ago.

According to the op-ed, Chung never told her parents and never reported the incident to authorities. She may have told one of her sisters, but felt "embarrassed" and wanted to "protect my family."

"It never crossed my mind to protect other women," Chung wrote, suggesting the doctor may have sexually assaulted others.

Chung, whose career includes working as an anchor and reporter for NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and MSNBC, said she was "terrified" to come forward, but applauded Ford "for telling the truth."

Ford has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a high school party in the 1980s. Kavanaugh, also accused of sexual misconduct by two other women, has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

The FBI delivered its report on its additional investigation of Kavanaugh to the U.S. Senate late Wednesday. An initial Senate vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court is scheduled for Friday.
