YouTube sensation Rebecca Black, whose rendition of an original song called "Friday" became a viral-video hit, has become the target of death threats for her work.

"In essence, the threats were related to getting the music off the Internet or they were going to kill her," an Anaheim, Calif., police spokesman, Sgt. Rick Martinez, told the Los Angeles TV station KCBS. "We can't validate how serious they are, but we do take it seriously."

Black, 13, lives with her parents in Anaheim.

Martinez told the news agency Reuters that one of the two death threats was made by phone and the other by email. No suspect had been identified as of Wednesday, he said.

"We're going to investigate and determine, number one, the source of the comments and then based on the investigation determine what intent was and where we go from here," Martinez told Reuters. "If we believe they were actually intended as threats we will work toward prosecution."
